‘YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!’
The blog empire and Twitter have been raging since last week when Rihanna and Chris Brown tweeted about their duet remixes of “Birthday Cake” and “Turn Up the Music.” Below is a discussion between Julian Burrell, Christina Burton, Kristen Campbell and Lauren Creiman.
Julian Burrell: I’m not sure that Rihanna has any sort of obligation to not deal with Chris Brown anymore. But I do have to wonder why she was willing to work with somebody on such a personal level, after he put her in the hospital.
Christina Burton: I don’t see their professional career as personal. We’re living in a day and age where two artists can record separately and then be remixed together. They sing in the same genre. I don’t see how their professional lives can’t mix.
Lauren Creiman: I can see where people are saying that it is not that big of a deal because it is professional. Yes we live in a day and age where people can record separately, but it is the same day and age where there is a very thin line between your personal and professional life.
Kristen Campbell: I have to partially agree with Julian. There is nothing that says she cannot record with Chris Brown, just because he put her in the hospital. However if there is potential for them to rekindle their relationship, from a woman’s standpoint, she really needs to rethink what she is getting herself into.
JB: Also, it’s not just professional. They are kind of hanging out in their spare time and that’s not to mention the fact that Chris Brown is acting like the “beating” never happened. He hasn’t accepted any sort of punishment for it and he gets put off whenever someone tries to bring it up.
CB: I don’t see how he’s not acknowledging it. He is being compliant with his probation and the very little punishment that he did receive. I’m not saying I agree with what he did, or that he should be forgiven as quickly as some of his fans believe, but if Rihanna has decided that she can work with him and perform without their personal issues coming to light again, then I see no reason why it should be scrutinized.
LC: I agree that it is ultimately her choice, but I agree with Julian when he says that Chris Brown has not fully acknowledged the situation. What bothers me is that rather than acting like a man and admitting his mistake, Chris Brown has proven that he doesn’t know how to accept responsibility. His tweet after winning a Grammy, in which he basically told everyone to [expletive] off, tells me that he doesn’t take what he did seriously. He should have taken that opportunity to reflect on what he did.
KC: Agreed, Lauren. He seems to be acting like a typical “douche-bag” who only wants some arm candy and is acting like nothing happened, just to draw Miss Rihanna back into his universe. On a side note, it was probably a super smart thing to remix each others’ music from an economic standpoint, because no matter how much complaining people do, it will definitely sell. I mean, look at Rebecca Black’s “Friday” song. She’s gotten over $1 million for a song the nation hated so much that her employer removed the music video from YouTube.
JB: Going back to Chris Brown, I guess what bothers me the most is that he already has his fans who are willing to forget what he did, just because he’s a good singer (which is debatable). And since the fans are already enabling him, do we really need the victim to be doing the same thing? Every time he is called on it, instead of addressing it, he sounds off on Twitter and gets mad.
KC: And throws chairs. (laughs)
CB: Going back to what Julian mentioned, Rihanna turned around and almost seemed like she was denying what he did to her. After filing a police report and having some sort of punishment placed on him, she allowed him to come around her again and actually apologized for throwing a wrench in his performing ability. She defended herself saying she did not want to say it was okay to go back to an abusive boyfriend. But essentially she said you can forgive the abuser as long as he says he won’t do it again.
KC: So basically if he grovels for two minutes, she’s content? Shows how low her standards are. If a normal man beat his normal wife and she told the police to let it go because she forgave his faults, people would call her crazy. BUT as it always goes with celebrities, fans will love you no matter what you do with your life. (Including OD-ing, allowing your abusive ex into your life, need I go on?)
LC: I don’t know if I am more upset with Rihanna or Chris Brown. I want to refrain from judging her because I have never been in her situation, but as a woman I am insulted by her choice. And don’t even get me started on Chris Brown. [KC seconds that] I just can’t get past the fact that he has learned nothing from what he has done, and has done nothing but act like an immature prick.
JB: In the end, what we’re all looking for is atonement for his sins, and picking up trash on the side of the highway is not due process for putting a woman in the hospital.
